Can someone give me some suggestions on how to change careers from an administrative assitant to..? I am stuck

I feel stuck in a rut and i can’ get out. I would like to do something else, but can’t seem to get employers to see me as other than an administrative assistant.

Try pointing out how the skills you gained as an administrative assistant could be used towards a different career. That because of your job, you have gained experience dealing with people in many different types of work related situations. I wish that I could be of more help. You’ve got to just go for it.

    There are a number of things you can do. Is there an opportunity to learn new skills, or transfer within your current organisation.

    If not, take night classes in order to develop new skills in an area that you want to work. Although challenging, you’ll find it fun & rewarding.

    Talk to your boss, or go into a careers office of some type & they will advise you on the best way forward.

    I would suggest you get cross-training in another department or another position with your current employer. Once you’ve gotten training, volunteer to help out. Help, help, help until you can answer the same questions about the other job as the person you are helping. Then apply for the job or a similar one. The other advise is to take some evening classes in another field. Good luck.
